Description: The color of codfish can vary from gray to gray green to reddish brown. They are usually covered with reddish brown spots. Their lateral line is white. Cod are streamline in shape and have a broad square tail fin. A prominent chin whisker is attached to their lower jaw. These fish are four to five times as longer than they are wide

Remarks: Cod are bottom dwelling fish that prefer bottoms ranging from rock to fine gravel. Cod are the target species of many anglers. A 6 to 8 foot medium / heavy rod with a Penn 113reel, spooled with 50-pound dacron line is standard tackle. Fisherman use either a jig with a teaser (red and white is good) or a two hook bait rig (baited with clams, mackerel, herring or shrimp).
